At the same time, the language and writing conventions of the authored text will influence thetechniques necessary to meet the accessibility requirements. EPUB requires support for Unicode text[epub-3], for example, which ensures the correct character data can be used (i.e., EPUB creators do not have to useimages of text). Although this is an important feature, it is often not enough on its own toensure that the text is fully accessible in any given language (e.g., additional informationabout directionality, emphasis, pronunciation, etc. may also be needed).

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 219 million cases of malaria occurred worldwide in 2017, slightly decreased from 239 million in 2010 and increased from 217 million in 2016.5 Approximately 92% of cases in 2017 occurred in sub-Saharan Africa, and the remainder were in Southeast Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean regions. Nearly half of all 2017 malaria cases worldwide occurred in five countries: Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, India and Uganda. Unfortunately, the ten African countries with highest malaria burden documented increased malaria cases in 2017 compared with the previous year,5 increasing concern that recent gains in malaria control are at high risk of reversal.
To provide an optimal quality sample for books with interactive content, Apple recommends that you supply your own custom sample due to the dynamic, complex nature of an interactive book. However, a custom sample is optional for books with interactive content. To create a custom sample, create a separate .epub file that includes the pages you want in the sample and deliver it within the block with type="preview". See Apple Books Metadata XML File Annotated in Apple Books Book Package Specification for more information.
In a book made using iBooks Author, you can link from an HTML widget to another place within the same book, or you can link to an EPUB (.epub) book or to another Multi-Touch (.ibooks) book. When linking to a Multi-Touch book, you can link to a specific location, such as a figure, chapter, section, or page number. See Links for more information.
However, rather than planning five books ahead, you might want to draft an in-depth character profile for your protagonist. As we know, strong, memorable protagonists are what steer an episodic series to success. And while they remain fairly static, you can plan for layers of your main character to be peeled back throughout the series, like an onion. This can be their backstory, personality, relationships, etc. Alternatively, you can introduce minor changes in their lives, like shifts in their careers or living situations.
I have recently purchased a Kobo e-reader, and apart from standard .epub books I have already imported (which work excellently) I would also like to use it to read some .pdf files that also contain LaTeX. Unfortunately the screen is too small to allow me to read most of them comfortably directly in this format, so I need to convert them to .epub or similar formats in order to be able to change font size on the e-reader.
